Newsroom, January 06, 2026: German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will undertake a two-day official visit to India on January 12-13 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This marks Merz's first trip to the country since taking office. Modi will receive him in Ahmedabad on January 12, followed by engagements in Bengaluru.

The leaders will review progress in the India-Germany Strategic Partnership, which marked its 25th anniversary in 2025.

Talks will cover intensified cooperation in trade and investment, technology exchange, education, skills development, worker mobility, defence and security, science and innovation, green andsustainable development, and people-to-people links.

They will also interact with business leaders and discuss regional and global issues, including ongoing geopolitical challenges.
