Amaravati, January 06: The Andhra Pradesh High Court has voiced strong displeasure at education department officials for repeatedly disregarding court orders.
A division bench expressed ire over non-compliance with a 2023 single-judge ruling that directed the continuation of contract Post Graduate Teachers in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) as per their agreements, including proper pay.
Instead, officials transferred teachers and shifted them to hourly wages, showing what the court described as a lack of respect for judicial authority.
The bench remarked that some officials appear to believe they are untouchable due to their proximity to power, treating court directives lightly. It highlighted a broader pattern of poor functioning in the Education Department.
The court initiated suo motu contempt proceedings, issued notice in Form-1, and directed the personal appearance of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Project Director B Srinivas Rao. The case stands adjourned to February 4 for further hearing.
