Newsroom, January 04, 2026: Pyongyang's Foreign Ministry issued a sharp statement via state media, labelling the US action a "hegemony-seeking act" and a "wanton violation" of the UN Charter principles on sovereignty and non-interference.

The condemnation follows Saturday's pre-dawn raid by US special forces, backed by air strikes on sites near Caracas, which resulted in Maduro and his wife being seized and flown to New York to face drug-trafficking and weapons charges.

North Korea, a longtime supporter of Maduro's socialist government, views the move as evidence of US willingness to topple regimes, raising alarms in Pyongyang over potential similar threats to its own leadership.
