Amaravati, January 03, 2026: The Andhra Pradesh government has partnered with a U.S.-based institute to deliver structured mental health training across all government and private medical colleges in the state.

The initiative, led by Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, targets first-year MBBS students with stress management sessions, suicide prevention tools, initial assessments via questionnaires, and personalised counselling from professionals. Each college will appoint a coordinator to ensure smooth rollout.

Health officials highlight data showing elevated mental health challenges among medical students around 28% of undergraduates affected, prompting early intervention during the demanding transition to medical education.
