Amaravati, January 02, 2026: Visakhapatnam stands at the edge of a digital boom. Proposals from Google (via subsidiary Raiden Infotech), Meta-Sify, Reliance, and others aim to build up to 2.5–2.8 GW of data centre capacity by 2030, with potential to scale to 6 GW.

Google's flagship 1 GW AI hub, backed by roughly ₹88,000 crore investment and partners like AdaniConneX and Airtel, includes subsea cable landings and clean energy plans. Other projects feature 500 MW from Meta-Sify and expansions at Rushikonda.

Data centres consume massive amounts of electricity. Vizag's current peak demand sits around 1,300 MW and could require new transmission lines and generation. Water needs for cooling might hit 30 million litres daily for 2.5 GW, roughly 10% of the city's supply. Land for renewables adds pressure.

Some locals and groups demand transparency on resource commitments, echoing pushback seen elsewhere.
