Amaravati, December 31, 2025: Andhra Pradesh marks a key administrative milestone as Polavaram and Markapuram officially become functional districts on December 31.

The state cabinet, led by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, cleared the reorganization late last week after public consultations and a gazette process that began in November.

Polavaram, with headquarters at Rampachodavaram, covers two revenue divisions and 11 mandals, focusing on tribal and forest areas. Markapuram, headquartered at Markapuram, includes two revenue divisions and 21 mandals, drawing from Prakasam and nearby regions.

The move addresses long-standing demands for closer administration and development reach. Earlier plans floated a third district around Madanapalle/Annamayya, but final notifications settled on these two.
