Amaravati, December 31, 2025: Andhra Pradesh has officially formed Polavaram district, effective today, with Rampachodavaram as its headquarters. The district includes Rampachodavaram and Chinturu revenue divisions across 11 mandals, home to a large tribal population in the Godavari region's hilly tracts.
The move addresses long-standing demands from tribals who faced hardships accessing services from the distant Alluri Sitarama Raju district headquarters at Paderu, nearly 300 km away. Cultural and geographic gaps worsened the issue after the 2022 merger.
Local leaders hail the change as a step toward faster administrative relief, economic progress, and better rehabilitation for families displaced by the Polavaram Irrigation Project. The area features natural assets like Papikondalu National Park and tourism spots, promising growth once the project enhances connectivity.
