Amaravati, December 28, 2025: Visakhapatnam City Police Commissioner Shankha Brata Bagchi formally launched a rehabilitation program for transgender individuals, emphasising sustainable empowerment over continued begging or public disruptions.

The initiative, part of the broader Mission Jyothirgamaiah, addresses community concerns like begging at signals and issues during events while prioritising counselling, skill-building, and employment opportunities.

The drive builds on earlier outreach, including a May meeting with around 160 transgender persons to discuss lawful livelihoods. At the launch event in the city police conference hall, appointment letters were distributed with support from the Visakhapatnam Mayor.
