Vijayawada, December 28, 2025: Authorities from the Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Company Limited (APCPDCL) temporarily disconnected power to the iconic Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam, popularly known as Kanaka Durga temple, citing non-payment of ₹3.08 crore in electricity dues accumulated since February 2023 despite repeated notices.

The temple, which supplies around 24 MW of solar power daily to the state grid at no cost for the past two years, had previously received free electricity for certain services under an informal arrangement. Recent billing changes led to the dispute. During the brief outage, temple officials ran backup generators to keep essential services running and avoid disruption for devotees.
