Vijayawada, December 28: The Andhra Pradesh government has paused efforts to create Greater Vijayawada by merging surrounding areas into the existing municipal limits.
Municipal Administration Minister Narayana confirmed the hold, explaining that boundary changes during the ongoing census could distort population figures, complicate urban planning, disrupt governance, and affect equitable fund allocation.
The decision follows recent meetings where Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath and MLA Gadde Ramamohan urged Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to advance the proposal, which aims to incorporate up to 75 nearby villages for better infrastructure, industrial growth, and tourism.
