Amaravati, December 28: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to finalise Andhra Pradesh's district reorganisation with small adjustments based on public input.
A preliminary notification issued on November 27 proposed creating three new districts, Polavaram (headquartered at Rampachodavaram), Markapuram, and Madanapalle along with five new revenue divisions. This would raise the state's total from 26 to 29 districts.
The government received 927 suggestions and objections during the consultation period. In a review meeting, Naidu prioritised local views, ordering retention of five mandals from Gudur Assembly in Nellore district and confirming no changes to Polavaram. Other shifts include minor mandal transfers in areas like Chittoor, Prakasam, and Anakapalle, plus new divisions such as Adda Road Junction in Anakapalle.
The final notification arrives on December 31, paving the way for smoother administration, better access to services in tribal and drought-hit regions, and stronger local governance starting early next year.
