Amaravati, December 27, 2025: Telangana Congress leader T. Jagga Reddy declared the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), operated by Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), a rightful asset of Andhra Pradesh people with deep historical roots. Speaking at a press conference in Vijayawada, he credited Congress for establishing the plant with massive investment and safeguarding it under past governments.
Reddy accused the central leadership of pursuing privatisation with intent to transfer the asset valued at around ₹2.5 lakh crore to corporate hands.
He criticised Andhra leaders for inaction despite their ties to the Centre. The plant, a key employer in Vizag, recently saw revival efforts including a ₹11,440 crore package to restart furnaces and boost output, with production hitting record levels in late 2025. Yet debates persist over its long-term public status.
