Amaravati, December 27, 2025: Water Resources Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu reviewed the long-pending Veligonda project via video conference and confirmed it will be completed by 2026, enabling irrigation and drinking water delivery.
Acting on Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s directives, he stressed immediate action on remaining tasks, including lining the 7-km Tunnel-2 (3.2 km done, 3.6 km targeted by June 2026) and feeder canal retaining walls. Cyclone Montha had slowed progress in November with water ingress, but dewatering allowed resumption in December.
The project, vital for drought-prone and fluoride-affected areas in Prakasam, Nellore, and YSR districts, aims to irrigate vast farmland and supply clean water to millions via Krishna River linkage to Nallamala Sagar reservoir. Recent efforts show steady gains, with added resources like extra cranes deployed.
