Amaravati, December 27, 2025: Parents of Ayesha Meera, the 17-year-old B. Pharmacy student from Tenali who was raped and murdered at Sri Durga Ladies Hostel in Ibrahimpatnam on December 27, 2007, marked the grim milestone today by submitting demands to the Andhra Pradesh State Mahila Commission in Mangalagiri.
Syed Yaqbal Basha and Samshad Begum expressed deep disappointment over the lack of resolution after 18 years, criticising successive governments and police for investigative failures that they say highlight poor security for women in the state.
The family called for the government to officially declare December 27 as Ayesha Meera Samsmarana Dinotsavam (remembrance day), return their daughter's remains, and set up a charitable trust in her name.
Women's groups and rights organizations supported their plea during the meeting with Commission Chairperson Rayapati Sailaja. The case, initially mishandled with a wrongful conviction later overturned, shifted to CBI in 2018; recent sealed reports have brought no closure or identified culprits.
