Amaravati, December 26: Tensions boiled over in Inumuru village, Buttaigudem mandal, Eluru district, when revenue officials and police attempted to identify disputed land for a private owner.

Tribal families, who have practiced podu cultivation on the plots for decades, resisted, backed by local activists. The confrontation turned violent as protesters reportedly used sticks, knives, and chilli powder, injuring the tahsildar and others while damaging a tractor and motorcycles.

The land, spanning about 23 acres across specific survey numbers, was ruled in favour of non-tribal ownership following earlier inquiries, though the case remains under High Court oversight.

Authorities have filed cases against several individuals and bolstered security to avert further unrest. Tribal groups counter that officials have harassed them despite pending rights claims.
