Vizag, December 25, 2025: A Cabinet sub-committee in Andhra Pradesh reviewed options for the high-profile Rushikonda buildings atop the scenic hill in Visakhapatnam. Built during the previous regime at high cost, the structures have drawn criticism as a financial burden, with monthly upkeep around Rs 25 lakh and no prior revenue after older tourism resorts were cleared.
Leading hospitality brands, including Taj (IHCL) and The Leela, along with others like Atmosphere Core, have submitted proposals to repurpose the site as a luxury hotel or resort. They seek limited additional land downhill for expansion, though Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules restrict construction on most of the nine acres available, leaving roughly two acres viable.
Officials note the current layout needs adjustments for full hotel use, with some blocks potentially reserved for cultural events, art galleries, or public programs.
