Amaravati, December 25, 2025: The Andhra Pradesh High Court has dismissed a Public Interest Litigation filed by Tirukshetrala Rakshana Samiti against a land swap between Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and the state Tourism Department.

The PIL questioned the exchange of TTD land in Peruru village, Tirupati mandal, for Tourism Department land, later allotted to Swara Hotels Limited (Oberoi Group) for infrastructure development.

A division bench led by Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur heard arguments that the lands, positioned on either side of a road, held equal actual market value despite varying registration figures.

The Advocate General, representing the state and TTD, defended the deal as fair and aimed at boosting pilgrim-related infrastructure, noting the exchange could not be challenged post-facto. Petitioners argued the shift from pilgrim use to private hotel development caused loss to TTD and devotees.
