Amaravati, December 25: Andhra Pradesh's effort to expand healthcare access through public-private partnership (PPP) medical colleges has drawn low interest from private players. Bids were invited for four institutions in Adoni, Madanapalle, Pulivendula, and Markapuram.
Only one proposal came in for Adoni, while the others received none, despite pre-bid meetings and extensions.
Telangana's Medical and Health Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav pointed to former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's public warnings and alleged calls from YSRCP leaders to potential bidders as key reasons for the tepid response. The state government aims to deliver quality care to the poor via PPP, following models in states like Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, with central viability gap funding support.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to proceed with the lone bidder and accelerate remaining tenders, stressing no compromise on public health.
