Amaravati, December 24, 2025: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has mandated air conditioning in all upcoming electric buses procured by the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), extending the requirement even to rural Palle Velugu services. The directive aims to enhance passenger comfort, especially as the Stree Shakti scheme drives higher ridership among women with free bus travel.
In a review meeting, Naidu approved aggressive electrification targets: 1,450 new electric buses in the next financial year and nearly 8,819 over the next five years to phase out diesel fleets. He set a goal for APSRTC to run only electric and CNG buses by 2030, cutting pollution and costs.
Additional steps include converting older buses to electric, outsourcing maintenance to private firms, and prioritising EV charging infrastructure in Godavari districts ahead of the 2027 Pushkarams. The Centre will supply 750 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa scheme, with 300 more approved for Tirupati-Tirumala routes.
