India's export growth hides sharp regional divides. Recent data shows a rising concentration, where a handful of states drive most merchandise shipments. Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh together hold close to 70% of the national export basket. This marks an increase from roughly 65% half a decade earlier, as measured by indicators like the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index.
