Amaravati, December 24: Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board Chairperson Abdul Aziz announced plans to develop the revered Bara Shaheed Dargah and its premises with ₹15 crore over the next two years. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has sanctioned ₹5 crore, with additional funds to come from other sources, including potential support under the central Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram scheme.

The project shifts from an earlier modest multi-purpose hall to a reinforced concrete Shahi Masjid, with designs largely finalised and tenders expected in January 2026.

The upgrade aims to improve facilities for devotees during the famous Rottela Panduga festival and other events, enhancing the site's appeal as a symbol of communal harmony. The dargah, tied to legends of twelve martyrs from centuries ago, draws crowds from across states for its unique roti-exchange ritual believed to fulfill wishes.
