Newsroom, December 23, 2025: The Bombay High Court sharply criticised the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board for weak enforcement of air pollution rules.

Judges said norms exist mostly on paper and highlighted risks to construction workers, who face dust without basic protections like masks. The court stressed that clean air is a fundamental right for everyone, including the poor. It ordered advisories for worker safety and demanded concrete plans soon.

Mumbai's air quality index hovers in the unhealthy range this winter, driven by construction dust and vehicle emissions.
