Amaravati, December 23, 2025: Hollywood epic Avatar: Fire and Ash faced tough competition in India upon release last week. The film earned an estimated ₹67.25 crore net in its opening weekend. On Monday, collections dropped to around ₹8.5 crore. In contrast, the ongoing Bollywood hit Dhurandhar continued its strong run, outperforming the new release on key days despite being in its third week.

The clash highlights shifting audience preferences, with local mass action drawing bigger crowds in many centres. Premium formats helped Avatar 3 in urban areas, but overall footfalls lagged expectations. As holidays approach, both films eye gains, though upcoming releases may split screens further.
