Amaravati, December 09, 2025: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Y.S. Sharmila Reddy charged the BJP-led Centre with a covert scheme to transfer the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant to the Adani Group, defying pledges against privatisation.
She alleged stalled hires, staff cuts, and land carve-ups at bargain rates to cripple the facility, dubbing it a "silent killing operation" on Vizag Steel. Sharmila accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of masterminding the move, with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu as enabler, quipping, "One hand pretends to help, while the other snatches away." She highlighted withheld raw materials and unfair wage tweaks as tactics to force losses and tenders for piecemeal sales. Sharmila demanded a firmanti-privatisation vow in Parliament.
