Newsroom, December 08, 2025: New York City mayor-elect Zohran Kwame Mamdani released a social media video on December 7, outlining key protections for immigrants facing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
He stressed the right to stay silent, film encounters without obstruction, and block entry to homes, schools, or private workplaces absent a judge-signed warrant.
"ICE agents can lie, but you have the right to remain silent," Mamdani said, advising detainees to repeat: "Am I free to go?" until answered. The clip followed a federal raid in Manhattan and echoed October sweeps near Chinatown that sparked protests, with similar actions hitting New Orleans.
