Amaravati, December 08, 2025: Leaders from the Andhra Pradesh Primary Teachers Association pressed the government to honor Savitribai Phule by declaring her January 3 birth anniversary as Women Teachers’ Day.
State president K. Prakash Rao and general secretary M.G. Mehdi handed over the request to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh. Phule, India's first woman teacher, broke barriers in 1848 by co-founding a girls' school with her husband Jyotirao, battling caste biases and championing rights for the marginalized. The group seeks to mirror Telangana's nod to this day, spotlighting women's classroom roles.
