Amaravati, December 05, 2025: Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu announced that the Polavaram irrigation project will be completed ahead of the December 2027 deadline, targeting inauguration before the 2027 Godavari Pushkarams, with the hydel power component ready simultaneously.

Speaking after inspecting progress in Polavaram Agency, Ramanaidu revealed 88% overall completion 72% from the 2014-19 TDP regime, 12% in the past 17 months under the NDA government, versus just 2% in the previous five years. The Rs 900 crore reconstruction of the damaged diaphragm wall at Gap-2 is 75% done, with 950 meters completed, set for a February 2026 finish.

The right main canal stands at 82% and left at 62%, with the buttress dam fully built despite monsoon hurdles. Ramanaidu highlighted Rs 600 crore works for the left main canal to deliver Godavari waters to Anakapalli by the 2026 irrigation season, benefiting lakhs of acres. "Finishing before Pushkaralu would be a historic achievement," he said, crediting Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's renewed vigor directive. Rehabilitation has seen Rs 2,000 crore disbursed to displaced families in one year.
