Amaravati, December 05, 2025: Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav called on primary health centre (PHC) doctors to embrace a paradigm of preventive and compassionate care, emphasising early interventions over reactive treatments to build resilient rural communities.
Addressing a statewide conference in Vijayawada, Yadav stressed integrating mental health support, nutrition counselling, and community outreach into PHC operations, saying, "Doctors must go beyond prescriptions, listen, empathise, and prevent crises before they erupt." The push aims to elevate PHCs from mere clinics to holistic hubs, tackling non-communicable diseases like diabetes and hypertension that affect 20% of Andhra's 5 crore population.
Yadav highlighted the need for compassionate listening, drawing from global models like Thailand's village health volunteers, and directed Rs 500 crore for PHC upgrades, including telemedicine and yoga sessions. "Rural health is the state's backbone; compassionate care turns patients into partners," he noted.
