Amaravati, December 01, 2025: Cyclone Ditwah has downgraded into a deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal, centred about 90 km east of Cuddalore and 80 km from the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast, but Andhra Pradesh remains on high alert for heavy rainfall and potential flash floods in its coastal districts.

The India Meteorological Department reports the system, which moved northwards at 5 kmph in the last six hours, is expected to further weaken into a depression by Monday morning, tracking parallel to the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coastline.

While no gale-force winds are anticipated, isolated heavy to very heavy showers loom over Ambedkar Konaseema, West Godavari, NTR, Krishna, Palnadu, Guntur, Bapatla, Prakasam, Nellore, Kadapa, Annamayya, Tirupati, and Chittoor districts on Monday, with thunderstorms and lightning in Yanam and light to moderate rains in Rayalaseema.

The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority has ramped up preparedness, with Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, and Health Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav convening department reviews on Sunday. APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain warned of gusty winds between 45 and 65 kmph along the south coastal belt, with rough seas persisting, and advised fishermen to avoid venturing out, urging those at sea to return immediately.

Residents in low-lying areas are to take precautions against flash floods, staying indoors during heavy downpours and avoiding trees or hoardings in strong gusts. Emergency contacts include 1070, 112, and 1800-425-0101.
