Amaravati, December 01, 2025: Andhra Pradesh's Health Department has identified 7,871 pregnant women in vulnerable coastal areas for special attention ahead of the lingering effects of cyclone Ditwah, which could unleash heavy rains and flash floods from Monday.
The initiative, part of a statewide alert, prioritises evacuations, medical kits, and safe shelters in districts such as Prakasam, Nellore, and SPSR Nellore, where low-lying areas bear the brunt. Officials, coordinating with ASHA workers and anganwadi staff, aim to reach these women within 24 hours, ensuring prenatal checkups and emergency deliveries amid forecasts of 10-20 cm downpours.
Director of Public Health Dr. P. Venkateswara Rao emphasized proactive measures: "We've mapped 1,200 high-risk cases for immediate relocation, with mobile units on standby for complications." The drive builds on lessons from Montha, integrating telemedicine for remote monitoring.
