Amaravati, November 30, 2025: Farmer associations in Andhra Pradesh have launched a fierce opposition to the Seed Bill 2025, branding it a "corporate stranglehold" that threatens the livelihoods of small and marginal cultivators by empowering seed companies to control pricing and distribution.

The Andhra Pradesh Vyavasaya Vikas Mahila Sangham and Rythu Sangham led the charge in Vijayawada, submitting a memorandum to Governor S. Abdul Nazeer demanding the bill's immediate shelving, arguing it ignores traditional seed-saving practices and exposes growers to exploitative contracts.

"This bill is a death knell for our independence; it hands our fields to multinationals," said Sangham leader Varla Ramaiah, highlighting clauses that criminalise unregistered seeds and limit farmer reuse.
