Amaravati, November 27, 2025: Andhra Pradesh's recent administrative overhaul, creating three new districts and five revenue divisions, will play a pivotal role in the upcoming 2026 census and future delimitation exercises, as outlined by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu during a policy review.
The changes adding Polavaram, Markapuram, and Madanapalle to reach 29 districts, plus divisions in Nakkapalli, Addanki, Pileru, Banaganapalle, and Madakasira, aim to refine demographic mapping for equitable allocation of Lok Sabha and assembly seats.
Naidu emphasised that accurate census data from these units will guide resource distribution, from funds to representation, preventing urban-rural imbalances.
The rejig, pending Cabinet nod, responds to demands for better governance in underserved areas, with the census set to capture population shifts since 2011's 4.93 crore baseline.
Delimitation, frozen since 2002, will use 2026 figures for redrawing lines post-2029, potentially adding seats to fast-growing coastal zones.
