Amaravati, November 23, 2025: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed fury over two recent cases of medical negligence at government general hospitals in Kakinada and Rajamahendravaram, directing senior officials to launch a thorough probe and impose severe penalties on those responsible.
In Kakinada GGH, an eight-month pregnant woman from Gadimoga village in Thallarevu mandal died on November 20 after a postgraduate student injected Pantoprazolep despite her documented allergy to pantoprazole, hypertension, and diabetes; she suffered immediate fits, cardiac arrest, and passed away that night. A preliminary review blamed the absence of oversight by the assistant professor for the fatal error.
In Rajamahendravaram GGH, a 55-year-old patient received expired hypertension medicine on November 8, with the batch past its October 2025 date, reportedly aggravating her condition. A complaint from Sruthi Matta highlighted the pharmacy's role, but Superintendent Dr. PVV Satyanarayana clarified no such drugs were issued by the hospital that day, attributing it to the 104 health service; the patient's name did not appear in the records.
Satyanarayana affirmed, "Whatever the case may be, we remain vigilant and treat such issues with utmost seriousness," and ordered a full audit of procurement and distribution.
Naidu's intervention calls for disciplinary steps against the errant doctors and staff, alongside financial aid for the Kakinada victim's family. The directives aim to address supervision failures and drug management gaps in state facilities.
