Newsroom, November 23, 2025: The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, seeking to designate Visakhapatnam as executive capital, Amaravati as legislative, and Kurnool as judicial, encountered renewed resistance in Parliament, with TDP and BJP members urging a detailed review to safeguard Amaravati's development as the unified administrative centre.
Introduced by YSRCP MP V. Vijayasai Reddy, the bill reignited debates on the 2014 bifurcation promises. However, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla referred it to the Business Advisory Committee for further deliberation, citing the need for consensus amid the state's economic stakes.
The YSRCP argues that the multi-capital model fulfils decentralisation goals, but NDA allies, including Union Minister Kishan Reddy, countered that it fragments resources and investor confidence, referencing the Supreme Court's 2024 ruling that upheld Amaravati's primacy.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu welcomed the pause, calling it a "step toward truth." The delay could extend into the winter session, testing the ruling coalition's unity.
