Amaravati, November 22, 2025: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu assured that medical colleges established under the public-private partnership model will remain firmly under government control to maintain low fees and high standards, addressing concerns over privatisation during a legislative session.
The state plans to launch 18 such institutions with 2,700 MBBS seats in the next academic year, partnering with private players for infrastructure while the government handles admissions, faculty, and curriculum to keep costs at Rs 20,000 annually, far below private rates.
Naidu emphasised the approach's role in expanding access amid a national doctor shortage, with private entities funding facilities in exchange for tax benefits. "Control stays with us to ensure equity," he stated, vowing no compromise on merit or affordability.
