Newsroom, November 21, 2025: Indian Railways has rolled out a makeover at key stations, swapping traditional tea stalls and samosa vendors for international outlets like McDonald's, KFC, Domino's, and Starbucks, aiming to modernise the travel experience for 2.3 crore daily passengers.

The shift, under the IRCTC's station redevelopment plan, began at hubs like New Delhi, Mumbai CST, and Howrah, with branded food courts now serving burgers and lattes alongside regional favourites in select spots.

Officials say the upgrade boosts hygiene and revenue, with tenders fetching premium bids from chains eyeing captive crowds. Yet, travelers miss the charm of local flavors, with some calling it a "corporate takeover" of public spaces.
