Amaravati, November 21, 2025: Andhra Pradesh wrapped up a massive leprosy detection drive, screening 6.65 lakh people across the state and confirming 1,200 new cases, with Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav hailing it as a key step toward eliminating the disease.
The initiative, run from November 3 to 17 in coordination with district teams and ASHA workers, focused on high-risk areas and included door-to-door checks to catch hidden infections early.
Yadav stressed the importance of timely treatment to prevent disability, noting free medicines at all government hospitals. The drive also educated communities on symptoms like skin patches and numbness.
