Newsroom, November 20, 2025: India aims to match the chip manufacturing capabilities of leading nations like Taiwan and South Korea by 2032, with advanced 28nm production starting in 2027, according to IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Speaking at the SEMICON India 2025 curtain-raiser, Vaishnaw outlined the Semiconductor Mission's roadmap to build a complete ecosystem from design to fabrication, backed by Rs 1.25 lakh crore in incentives and partnerships with global players like Micron and Tata Electronics.
The push includes five approved units for assembly and testing, with three fabs in planning, targeting self-reliance in electronics amid geopolitical supply risks. Vaishnaw stressed talent development through 85,000 trained engineers and new courses at 100 institutions.
