Amaravati, November 16, 2025: Andhra Pradesh signed a memorandum of understanding with the Airports Authority of India for a new greenfield airport in Srikakulam, a move Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu called a "connectivity game-changer" for the Uttarandhra region.
The agreement, inked in the presence of Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu, aims to enhance access to opportunities and spur tourism in the district, which stands to gain from better infrastructure alongside the nearing Bhogapuram International Airport set for 2026 operations. Authorities are now scouting land, designing facilities, and fast-tracking permissions to position the two airports as engines for sustained development.
The project aligns with Andhra's broader push to draw Rs 13 lakh crore in investments, fostering industrial clusters and creating thousands of jobs in underserved northern areas. Naidu emphasized its role in "unlocking economic activity across the district," with early plans for cargo and passenger links to major cities.
