Amaravati, November 13, 2025: Andhra Pradesh's official fact-checking arm has dismissed viral reports alleging 13 people fell ill from "spiked toddy" in Hindupur's rural mandal, attributing the cases to withdrawal symptoms from a three-day break in consumption caused by heavy rains.

Nine locals with a toddy habit sought treatment for headaches, tremors, and sweats after the dry spell, with five treated as outpatients and four briefly admitted before discharge. The Fact Check Wing labelled the newspaper headline and social media spread as deliberate misinformation, stressing no evidence of adulteration or production of tainted liquor exists in the state.

The clarification, shared on X, warns against such falsehoods that erode public trust, promising legal action against perpetrators. It highlights the need for verified reporting amid seasonal disruptions like monsoons that affect traditional brews.
