Leukemia's subtle cues demand early vigilance

Amaravati, October 16, 2025:
Haematologist Dr Kunal Sood warns that leukaemia's abnormal white blood cells overwhelm healthy ones in the bone marrow, triggering overlooked signals like persistent fatigue from anaemia, repeated severe infections due to faulty immune cells, and easy bruising or bleeding from platelet shortages manifesting as nosebleeds, gum issues, or pinpoint red spots.
Bone or joint aches arise from marrow overcrowding, while swollen lymph nodes, spleen, or liver may cause painless neck or abdominal bulges; night sweats, fevers, and unintended weight loss round out the cluster often seen in blood malignancies.
Though chronic leukaemia frequently surfaces via routine tests without fanfare, acute variants accelerate rapidly, stressing the need for swift medical review if symptoms linger or overlap. Leukaemia strikes all ages, but catching it early transforms outcomes.
